Thomas Griffin spake thusly in a message to steve winter:

TG> Thanks for your comments because it opened my eyes with some
TG> new understanding. But I have a question: This being that
TG> my pastor of our home missions work homeschools his children
TG> but they are the only home-schooled children in the area.
TG> They don't get much fellowship with anyone, much less

Fellowship is only with other saints. Friendships and relationships,
of course can be good and healthy with many.

TG> children their own age. What can you suggest to help
TG> children in this situation to learn to interact?

First of all we need to get the perspective that the institutionalized
environment of being segregated by peer group has no natural precident.
The results of such institutionalization are many and include the peer
pressure that damages so many. We faced the same concern, but found that
praying for friends and then going for walks in the neighborhood solved
the problem. Remember that many of our "heros" in our history who proved
to be of notable character in the secular world were raised in farm
situations where the "socialization" concerns had not yet been invented,
nor had Ritalin (or crack). One could easily see that they would be
considered isolated to the point of abuse in the eyes of many today.

I hope that this answer does not appear flippant in that the concerns that
you publish were very "dire" around here until I preached something like,"
If you want friends, then pray for friends".
