STEVE WINTER WROTE:

The only one in 708 that we have is the USRobotics support board and they
only carry a couple of the tech echos. What most people do is just call
in when the rates are low and use an offline reader called QWK which
allows them to read and reply offline. The phone cost once it is set
up is trivial because it only takes a couple of minutes a day to stay
current in the echo areas.

AND RJ BROWN ANSWERS:

I see now by close examination of your signature that you are in
Durham North Carolina USA, home of Duke University. It is interesting
to note that the USENET news system was invented at Duke in the late
1970s. As such, it should be no trouble for you to get internet
access (indeed, you *MUST* have it now in order to read this
message!). Why don't you set up your BBS as a gateway so that BBS
postings would be echoed to a newsgroup, say alt.bbs.psychotronic or
something similar. The use of alt groups eliminates the need to go
through with a RFV before the newsgroup can be created. If the
traffic is substantial over time, you might consider moving it then to
soc.religion.whatever instead. I hate to pay long distance bills when
I already have a dedicated line to the internet :)
