Death before Eden?

Richard Masoner had occasion to say :
:)
:)> The question I ponder is -
:)> was there death before Eden, or did death come into the world only as a
:)> result of Adam's sin? How can we reconcile the fossil record, if we believe
:)> it, with what the Bible says in Genesis.
:)
:)I've pondered this myself a little. So far, I remain undecided.
:)
:)The consensus currently seems to be that death for animals as well as
:)mankind began only after the Fall; Genesis seems to imply this, though
:)it's not explicitly stated.
:)
:)My "personal" view of Creation has flip-flopped amongst all the major
:)theories extant. I currently lean to 6-day literal creation, but it
:)does seem to collide with the fossil record. Yes, I've read the stuff
:)from the Institute for Creation Research; some of it's pretty good,
:)some of it's pretty shaky. For example, I find their ideas on a
:)"hypobaric atmosphere" to be really bizarre.
:)
:)I do think evolution, as far as describing a system whereby new species
:)are created, has too many holes to be supportable, even with Gould's
:)innovative "punctuated equilibrium" ideas.
:)
:)Richard, who's only a scientist wannabe.
:)

I am not very litterate in these subject matters, but is it
possible to stay with the current beliefs of death originating
at the garden - and maybe explain or TRY to explain the reasoning
of the fossils by some of the things that the world endured during
the times when God was dealing with it, foor instance in the
flood. Could it have something to do with our methods of obtaining
the age of the fossils after undergoing things like the flood?

I don't know, but am curious now... Any other thoughts?
