What is everyone thoughts on this?

You aren't going to be able to do anything about it. I personally know
from experience. The church I was raised in had a "feud" with a UPC
church in that same town. A lot of it had to do with the pastor of the UPC church "supposedly" trying to get some of the members of the other
church to become members of his. Also another thing I learned was that
the UPC church was started from members of my old church that had
different beliefs in the standards set by the pastor of my old church.
Apparently they called up the UPC pastor and had him come into town and
start that church. Both churches believe in the same doctrine. They do
have different standards though.

My personal feeling is that my old church had overly strict standards
with my old pastor forcing his own convictions on the congregation.
Long sleeves after a certain age
Being made to feel that you are a sinner if you miss church even one time
Wear best outfit every time you go to church, if you don't your made to
feel as if you had the plague by the Pastor and his family
Etc....
Yes the pastor has authority, but come on people, how far does that go?
Where does it say in the Bible that you must wear long sleeves or you
are going to hell? I believe that once a pastor starts to preach his own
convictions as the Word of God and teaches that if you don't obey "his
convictions" you are going to hell then he's overstepping his bounds.
The very last straw was when he stood up and said if we didn't want to
follow HIS (not God's) standards don't come to HIS church. Let's just
put it this way I quit then and there. This statement he made was about
the whole nine yards of all "his" standards.
I started attending the UPC church about 1 1/2 years after I married my
husband, and guess what! They weren't at all like what they were
portrayed in at the other church. Yes they wore short sleeves, but
nothing that was indecent. If you had to miss church you weren't hanged
for it, only told that they missed you when you returned.

But enough about that...

Only the Lord can straighten things out. These situations are man-made,
but even man-made peace treaties won't heal wounded hearts, and bruised
feelings.
