One of the finest pastors that I know (he also happens to be a good friend of
mine) has a rather extensive handgun collection. He often carries one with him
in plain view as he goes about his daily business.

On a related note, I remember reading in a D.K. Bernard book (_Handbook of Basic
Doctrines_, if my memory serves me correctly) that observance of the biblical
commandment "thou shall not kill" necessarily includes refusal, on the part of a
Christian, to assume a combative position in the armed forces. Presumably, he
feels it is ok to be in the military as long as one is not engaged in actual
combat.

Personally, I'm not convinced that this is a view endorsed by the Bible. How do
others feel about this issue?
