Bearing Arms

You know what I just thought about? In Acts, Cornelius, who was a soldier,
was baptized by Peter. So obviously Peter didn't have a problem with
Cornelius bearing arms and I am sure that Cornelius had to fight and do
certain things in the line of duty that might have meant killing someone. I
also assume that there were many soldiers in the Roman army that were
Christians....I could be wrong on this, but wasn't there a whole Cohort put
to death by an emperor, cause they were Christians? As far as I remember,
that particular emperor asked them to deny Jesus Christ and they
didn't....so one by one they died for Jesus' name. When we talk about
bearing arms, aren't we talking about the scripture where Jesus said "Those
that live by the sword shall die by he sword"....maybe he wasn't talking
about soldiers there. Maybe he was talking about people that have a violent
life-style, such as terrorists, murderers, criminals in General...and even
civillians who love to take the law into their own hands, like vigilantes
and the like. Also, when it says "Thou shalt not kill" and then God himself
turns around and tells the Israelites to go and fight against those that
would stand in their way killing everything, including the animals, would
that not contradict his word? I don't know, maybe it is meant differently
than what we read into it. That is just a thought. Doris
