Our manual has a section in it that recommends concientious objector
status for persons serving in the military. But I also know of
preachers (very well known ones too!) that carry a gun even in
church

************
I have several friends in the UPC that are involved in the Military and I
support their decision to join. (one is a captain in the army Reserve. Right
now he got shipped to bamberg, Germany untill March.) For myself, I have never
seen really any just right out scriptureal support for not going into military
service. But I have chosen to go with the Concientous objecter viewpoint. I
don't see how I could stand the army life, Maybe the National Guard someday, but
not right now. But here is an issue I get called down on quite a bit. I do not
believe that women should be involved in the military. How can a woman keep her
standards when she has to keep her hair a certain short length and wear combat
fatigues? My professers at school do not like this stance at all. But if a
person does decide to go into the military, I do not think that we should just
cut them out like some groups would. I believe it to be more of a personal
matter between God and the person.
