balloon release

My daughter's school wanted to have a baloon release to celebrate
their 140th annaversary, but the kinds of concerns you mentioned made
them look at alternatives.  

They had a butterfly release instead.  There is a company that sells
butterflies in little tetrahedral boxes for such purposes.  

Since the school's colors are black and orange, they released
monarchs.  It was really very nice.  I liked the sight of hundreds of
monarch butterflies better than the sight of hundreds of balloons.  I
suspect that the butterflies were more expensive thought.
