Linux is a free operating system for intel-based PCs running 386 and
up processors, and it also works on sparc, mips, alpha, and ppc (which
i what the newer macs have in them). Linux is a variety of Unix.
Unix has been around longer than Bill Gates has even known what a
computer is. When he was in his garage playing on his MITS Altair
writing MBASIC, Unix was running the AT&T Bell Telephone Labs research
department. Linux may be downloaded from:

   ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux

if you are interested. The documentation and a FAQ are there also.
