Brother,
I know this is not what you are looking for in a response.
(being that you want scriptural discussion).
But may I offer an opinion on the teachings of an Imminent return of Jesus?
I believe that we must be prepared to live for Jesus every day as though
it was our last day. (regardless of personal interpretations of scripture).
Being prepared spiritually as if, He would return at any time.
And in doing so, we can do no harm.
But good.
If we take the view that this must happen first, then that, etc.
We presume that we do have full understanding of the signs that we have
"seen".
And that we are certain that we are not in error.
There is a danger of becoming complacent, and letting things creep in to
our lives that we would really not take a chance on if we really believed
he could come at any moment.
On the other hand some are strong advocates for a pre tribulation rapture,
and pastors teach their congregation the same.
If they then are here when the churches and saints of God beome persecuted
at their local levels, the saints whose faith was built up in the hope of
being taken out of here before it started is shaken to say the least.
Some weak Saints may even totally lose hope in the Lords return and lose
confidence in the man of God.
To those who say "God wont leave the church to go through tribulation" I
say God has good aim !
He can hit the sinner and never touch the saint standing by their side.
He can lose the angel of death and pass over those covered by the (HIS)
blood.
He can raise up a gourd to provide shade in the heat of the day.
He can send Ravens to bring food.
and to a widow provide a barrel of meal that never runs out as long as
their is a need.
I say it is better to teach that Yes, Jesus could return at any moment.
"for no man knows the day nor the hour".
So it is telling the truth, regardless of how you interpret the "as a thief
in the night "scripture.
Be prepared to live for Jesus, through the hard times , wether he returns
before the tribulation or not.... Pre , Mid, or Post. (It will all pan out
in the end)
Although,
I always wonder how pre tribbers explain away the scripture, "these are
they that have come out of great tribulation and have washed their robes
in the blood of the lamb."
and how about being "made overcomers by the blood of the lamb and the word
of their testimony."
As for as I can see, nothing to be gained in arguing against "His imminent
return".
Prepare to be here till he comes.....wether today , tomorrow or ten years
from now, But**
**Live** as if he would return at any moment.
