First realize, there are two kinds of tongues......
1) tongue (earthly non-learned language (or tongue)) that is spoken
upon the initial infilling of the HG.
This tongue, believers speak when they are birthed in God and have
received the spirit to have quickened them to new life. Essentially
a new baby in the Lord's first cry. This will happen once... and
because you can only receive the *initial* baptism of the HG once,
this *cry* happens only once.
2) tongue (*gift* of the spirit - tongue of angels) that no man
(or wo-man) can interpret unless accompanied by another *gift*
of *interpretation of tongues*.
This tongue is a *gift* that God gives as the need arises. It's not
a spiritual muscle that you *flex* to get the attention of God. There
are things that the spirit communicates to God that can't be deciphered
by mans ears and linguistic databases.... likewise is *groanings* of
the spirit as God understands as well. Sometimes this *gift* manifests
itself in a worship service in which it *must* be interpreted so that
all could be edified. And that by course of two or three at most before
an interpretation should occur.
This *tongue*, a person may *never* experience personally.
When someone asks about the frequency of tongue talkin', since I see it at
the near-bottom of the gift-of-the-Spirit-list, I'd think in order of
preference, that since it's at or near the bottom that the items above it
should be performed on a more regular basis. Have you talked in tongues
today to show salvation? How about your dailing *healing*? Or your daily
*working of miracles*? Or your daily *prophecy*? I'd assume since they are
all *higher* in the list, they ought to occur more frequently, right???
That is nonsense. Since we don't perform healings, miracles, and prophecies
on a daily basis... neither should it be required that tongues be spoken on
a daily basis to prove or show salvation.
A better test is to see if the fruit of the spirit is evident.
Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, meekeness, faith,
and temperance and such like .... against is no law. If the fruit (single,
not plural (it's not *fruits* of the Spirit)) is evident, then the Spirit
of the Master isn't within.
