me: I believe that our faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior
begins when we first accept him upon repentance.
John 1:12 " But as many as received him, to them gave
he power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on his name:"

Faith is not static. It is both the act of a single instant
and an attitude of life. (paraphrasing from the commentary in
my Full Life Study Bible)

To have received (in the first place) denotes a definite
act of faith. In order for one to be FINALLY saved, true
faith must continue after the initial act of accepting Christ.

Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my
name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

Col. 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled,
and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which
ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature
which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

I don't know much about sacred cows, even though I am
a country gal, but I truly don't understand the point you are
trying to make here.
I don't know about you guys, but I am still flesh and blood.
My faith is *on occasion* mixed with doubt. It is a weakness
I am sure we have ALL shared from time to time.

Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out,
and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

We need to confess our lack of faith to Him and pray that he
will give us the faith that is needed . I have often asked him
to increase my faith and help mine unbelief. My problem has
never been having enough faith for others, only for myself.
Maybe that's because I have never felt worthy of all that
He has done for me.

BUT...just because we are weak, doesn't mean that Jesus
will not hear and answer our petitions. I believe He understands
and *even* sympathizes with our weaknesses.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot
be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points
tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 11: 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he
that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is
a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I want to please the Lord and I surely want to see Him.

Dave asked: So are you using the measure given to you? You
> have to build your faith, just like a person works out with weights
> to build his muscles. Mix your faith with the Word and your faith
> will be built up...also, pray in the Holy Ghost more often...this will
> build your faith See Jude 20

me: I believe I am. It hasn't been 13 years since I prayed
in the Holy Ghost :-)

True faith is imparted to us by Christ.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.

I believe we draw nearer to God through prayer, fasting,
worship, and the reading of His Word. If we worship, pray, fast and
read the Word we will find our commitment to Him will grow
deeper as the years pass. Our confidence (and faith)
in Him will likewise increase accordingly.

In order to keep the faith coming, we have to keep
hearing. I don't see anything wrong with asking for
a little help , from time to time, from the One who
imparted it (faith) to us in the first place.
