There are two things that immediately come to mind when determining
whether a person has received the Holy Ghost and/or whether or not
the Holy Ghost is guiding within that person's life:

Matthew 12:33 — Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make
the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

Galatians 5:22 — But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance:

John 13:35 — By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have
love one to another.

Of course, we know that they "received" the Holy Ghost because we heard them
speak with tongues...but by no means is that conclusive...and really neither
are
the above "signs"...many moral people exhibit the entire fruit of the spirit,
and show more love than saints...but that doesn't mean they have the Holy
Ghost...

The final test??? See who's there when you get there!
