me: All kinds of problems, but I have learned
to adapt, and improvise, through the years.
The teachers tried to "make" me right-handed
in grade school, but I resisted.
When I first started in banking 25 years ago,
we used to post all checks and deposits manually
(before the days of electronic data processing) to large
ledger sheets on a posting machine that resembled a
giant adding machine with a typewriter carriage.
It was designed for those of right-hand persuasion
My supervisor told me she would "try me out" on this
job, but she doubted that a "lefty" would be able to attain
any speed or proficiency. We used to double post
all our work (two different people posting the same
checks and deposits to proof each other's work for
errors). By the end of the year, I was posting checks
and deposits with more speed and accuracy than my
supervisor.
