<< o teach that Melchizedek was in fact a theophony, (or an appearance of
the preincarnate Christ) is to fly absolutely in the face of the Book of
Hebrews. >>
The subject matter dealing with Melchizedk in Hebrews is not the individual,
but the Priesthood, that was what had no ending of days. His right to such a
priesthood was the reason for all those other things that people find so
confusing and easy to attach to diety.
He lived while the children of Isreal where yet in the loins of Abraham, and
as such there was no Levitical Priesthood present on the earth at the time
and no qualifications for said priesthood. He just introduced a
prelevitical priesthood that foretold of a priesthood that Jesus would one
day come and be a priest for ever after the order of a priesthood of merit.
The law would not let Jesus be a priest because He came from the tribe of
Judah. Melchizedk was just a man that existed before there was a Isreal and
a Levitical Priesthood, its really not all that complicated if you have a
basic understanding that the subject is Priesthood and not Godhead.
