Yep.....

I think the whole *stink* on H-F about tithes is based on how *mandatory*
the importance of tithing is placed on the saint in the local church.

If it's preached that tithing is optional but give as the Lord gives you...
then it's a wonderful thing....

If it's preached as a *requirement* of local membership and possibly a salvational issue, then people really question the use of the tithe... is
it to pad the preachers pockets or what? If it's demanded (when it's not
biblically required) by man, then how will it be used? We all know that
if we bless the work of the Lord with our time, efforts, and finances, the
Lord will surely bless us back...

In my 13 years in the apostolic *way*, I've prolly not heard even 2
messages devoted to tithing. It's been mentioned, but rarely preached
about. I remember a post a while back that I posted for someone that
wrote me about the subject how the her church institutes a "tithing line"
where folks come forward to drop their "tithe" into the plate and then
when they do, the pastor lays hands on them to bless them. This whole
situation made her feel really bad as she's a single mother with a couple
of kids and sometimes she doesn't have it to give. But her local assembly
places such importance on it that you'll be "physically blessed" if you do,
and "not blessed" if you don't. A really good way to spread the shame
around if you ask me. Blessed if you do and almost "condemned" if you
elect not to.

Seems like to me, the ministry shouldn't want the money *if* the saints
aren't willing to give it up. There's a big difference in spending the
money that folks willfully give as opposed to spending money that folks
give with a grudge.
