IRC is designed to support groups of hundreds to thousands of users.
It is not very efficient of machine resources. We already have a MOO
on elilabs.com/higherfire.org, and MOOs are pretty easy on the
resources. I have been running 3 MOOs here for several years.
A MOO also lets users move from room to romm, or area to area, so many
different conversations can take place all at once. Another
alternative would be a MUSE, which is pretty much the same thing, only
programmed different, and the user commands are different, but it does
about the same thing.
I have been hosting the famous "Virtual Chicago" muse on elilabs.com
since about early July of this year. It is a pretty active MUSE, yet
I rarely even notice that it is running, since it is so gentle on the
cpu.
So the bottom line is:
WHY DON'T WE JUST USE THE BEULAHMOO WE ALREADY HAVE ???
