"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast
rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee...." Hosea 4:6
It seems to me that many are willingly ignorant. People can be willingly
ingnorant according to 2 Pet. 3:5. The revelation may start with
knowledge but people can be "Ever learning and never able to come to the
knowledge of the truth." 2 Tim. 3:7
I think people know that God is one naturally, but the mighty God in
Christ comes by revelation to those who seek.

I agree it may not be a lightening bolt. Sometimes revelation comes
slowly, but I don't think people can understand that Jesus Christ is God
manifest in the flesh by knowledge only. I think people can understand
that the Messiah is God in flesh without revelation but when it comes to
who Jesus is, I think it comes by revelation. A "Messiah" without
description (Unlike Jesus) could be understood because it could fit
whatever preconceived notions we may have and could be whatever we wanted
( like the Jews wanted someone to deliver them from the Romans.) Jesus
said many things that are hard to swallow however.
