My husband and I both genuinely received the Holy Ghost in Charismatic
churches. So I know that some do receive it. I think that those who do
receive the Holy Ghost will have a certain amount of time appointed by
God to move to the truth. My husband and I started in the UPC within
months after receiving the Holy Ghost. I think with some it will take
longer. There are some in Charismatic churches, however, that claim the
real Holy Ghost, but do not actually have it. They speak in tongues but
are not doing it as the Holy Ghost gives utterance. Some have a "prayer
language" that they practice which can be the real Holy Ghost or it can
be human utterances. Some "learn" how to speak in tongues by practicing
sounds out of a book. I think some genuinely receive the Holy Ghost but
because of pressures, do not come into the truth and then loose what they
had.(Matt. 13:21,22)
Have you studied at all about the "Latter Rain Movement"? This was a
movement in the 40's and 50's in which people were claiming a fresh word
from God. They had "the anointing". It would seem the Charismatic
Movement of today came from this movement. William Branham had much to do
with it. There was apparently a belief that denominationalism was
synonymous with "the mark of the beast". This is why so many Charismatic
churches today are "nondenominational".
"The 1950 General Conference passed a strong ten-point resolution,
expressing in detail it's objections to the movement. The resolution
condemned (1)the promiscuous laying on of hands for the bestowing of
spiritual gifts; (2)the teaching that the church is based on present day
apostles and prophets;(3)the teaching that Christians must sever
themselves from all church organization;(4)the compromising of the truths
of oneness and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ;(5)the teaching
that one can receive the Holy Ghost without speaking with other
tongues;(6)the teaching that candidates for the Holy Ghost baptism should
not praise the Lord while tarrying for this gift;(7)the sowing of discord
among assemblies and ministers;(8)the prophesying of prophets who speak
out of their own human spirits(9)the fellowshipping of those whose lives
are ungodly;(10)the teaching that the true church is composed of all who
call themselves Christians, regardless of doctrinal belief."
(The Latter Rain Movement, A Retrospective Analysis, J.R.Ensey
pgs.22,23)
The Lord said He would pour His Spirit upon *all* flesh. It would seem
this is happening, but not everything that is happening is of God. "
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they be of
God: Because many false prophets are gone out into the world." (1 John
4:1)
Number 10 (above) seems to indicate that this movement may be largely
responsible for the ecumenical movement. The ecumenical movement
certainly facilitates one world government and one world religion. If we
could all "just believe" and it does not matter what it is we believe we
can be really "lovey" about religion and all proselytizing would cease.
To us, the idea that "everyone is okay" cannot be accepted. Since we
cannot accept this idea, we could easily be labeled "hate-mongers" who
cannot accept people as they are. Satan really seems to have his hand in
this. " For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming
themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself
is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if
his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness;
whose end shall be according to their works." 2 Cor. 13-15
