I see this *symptom* as one of the reasons the oneness apostolic church
doesn't grow faster. People see the bickering and it blinds them of
what love there is be seen.
I also think that this communication media that we all engage in (e-mail)
is absolutely the most sterile form of an exchange of words as there is
besides having a pocket pager. Combine the sterility of e-mail with the
peoples "lack-of-composition" type skills needed to bring ones thought to
fruit and demonstrate them accurately, and the distinct possibility that
people just "miss-the-mark" of a post and completely misread the post, makes
this method of communication the absolute most difficult way to exchange ideas
and be completely understood.
There are so many places along the whole communications channel where a
breakdown can occur that can cause a mis interpretation.
We are moved by the current our lives take us. We are moved emotionally,
mentally, physically, etc. Depending on the current mood and movements,
we still might interpret a post improperly.
If there's one thing our group must start exercising control must be the
raging need to reply on an IMPULSE THAT DEMANDS AN ANSWER ... IMMEDIATELY.
Take a break, go get an ice cream cone, get a DQ Blizzard, walk away from
the computer, ask someone else to read it to see how it comes across to
them, kick the dog, bite the cat, kiss the spouse, hug the children, etc.
If you're reading a post for the first time and you're *tempted* to fire
off a reply right then and there..... pause....... read the rest of the
posts and see if someone has already said what you'd like to say. If it's
been said, drop it, and go on. If not, do an attitude check to see if
what you're about to say would damage a person's being. Is it lifting
up and edifying the previous poster? Is it tearing the other down?
I think "haste" lays much waste on Higher-Fire.
I also think it takes a really really mature poster (regardless of age)
to not engage in hastfully written posts.
Another thing.... I really really hate the way this group has gotten
into the habit of formatting replies... they are starting to look
like this...

>From a moderator's perspective, sometimes the poorer style above doesn't
have the clear declanation where the new words begin... sometimes when
I don't know where the new words begin, I'll just zot the post. Another
thing about the poorer style is the fact that sometimes you just have no
idea how old the older words are.... are they a day old? A week old?
What?
People use the other method that puts a ">" at the beginning of each
line replied to, then we can see by the accumulation of ">'s" how old
some of the material is. The above post might in reality look like this...

Shows that the group has seen this previous set of words FIVE previous times
as shows by the six ">" (>>>>>> [five for the previous posts and this one
for the sixth time). To me, I don't think anything we say here on Higher-
Fire warrants the group seeing it more than two or three times in a current
thread. I maybe wrong, but I think it's overkill.
MS Outlook and Outlook Express give you the option what character you want
to put at the beginning of a line that's copied when you hit the reply button.
In Outlook Express, go to the "Tools" menu item, then "Optins". Then choose
the "Send" panel. First click on the "Plain text" radio button in the "Mail
Sending Format" group of information.... then click on the "Settings" button
next to the "Plain text" radio button. When the "Plain Text Settings" panel
pops up on the screen, the last two lines give the parameters by which the
e-mail client send out and formats the outgoing e-mail...
The first one is the length at which a "line" of text is wrapped. Normally
this is set between 72-80 characters.
The second one is a two part question that starts with a checkbox that says
"Indent with a ___fill-in-the-blank___ when replying or forwarding".
The checkbox enables the activity, the fill-in-the-blank tells the e-mail
client which letter to pre-pend to the beginning of each line when you
reply to the e-mail. Click on the "OK/Accept" buttons when necessary to
change the settings... you might have to exit out of Outlook Express and then
restart it for the settings to change the behaviour of the program.
In MS Outlook, it's much the same way.... Tools/Options, then the "Internet
E-mail" Tab, then there's a dialog section that deals with format of the
e-mail when replying....
Please consider these things.
