Feminine Mystique and Apostolic Sisters

I suppose this is a tangential thought process brought on by the
'unsubmissive' wife who will not impart secrets to her husband, but I've
been thinking about the relationship of feminism to our good Apostolic
sisters.

Now before all of the female members hit the delete key, let me say that I
don't consider myself a horrible chauvinist. I honour women and don't
believe that the primacy of the man or husband gives him any right to
browbeat his wife. In fact, the proper relationship is based on *mutual*
submission. And before you think I'm too awful, I'm married to a
pre-suffrage dear who won't vote for any woman to hold public office, isn't
sure women should vote at all and is still old-fashioned about the man
taking out the trash, cutting the lawn, etc.

I don't want to turn this into a 'should women keep silence in the Church'
thread, but I think that the feminist movement has not altogether positively
effected some of our Apostolic women.

Women, in general, have, through various occupations and academic strides
come to realise that they don't have to be *dependent* upon a man. I
commend them on their ability to do good work, to make progress, etc., but I
wonder if this independence has effected principles of submission in many
women.

In all honesty, I have met very few women whom I find to be of a 'meek and
quiet spirit.' So many are strong-willed, fiesty, and some are flat
abusively obstinate.

The scripture just seems to be soooo instructive on these issues that I
think it would do our women good to step back and learn the value of godly
submission.

Of course, menfolk would probably take quick advantage of a suddenly
submissive wife=)

I'm rambling now, but I think men would do very good to learn that value of
a woman of God. If you have a wife who is serving the Lord, you should in
all things honour her, respect her, provide for her and help her to be the
sort of wife that the Scriptures admonish her to be.

Well, enough of my sloppy observations.

God Bless.

all honour to Christ Jesus.
