I agree.  It literally saves no space the other way, and actually can
HINDER free flow, since if I have to make four quotes in one post, and
the person posting doesn't see their post, then they could (and when I
tried it, they did) assume that they weren't replied to.  Literally, the
responses to my posts dropped by half.

I really don't think that it would be as effective to the communication
process to implement this cosmetic only change.

I would in fact, state that my experience with this process resulted in
fewer people posting, and really, if it isn't a matter of literal
electronic size, wouldn't it be better to further the obvious mission of
this mailing list, that is, to provoke people to use the list?
