"He that believeth on me as the scripture hath said, out of his belly
shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit,
which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not
yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified." John 7:38,39

What is "believing on the Lord Jesus Christ?"

When the gentiles received the Holy Ghost, Peter was called on the carpet
and he said " Forasmuch as God gave them the LIKE GIFT as he did unto us
WHO BELIEVED ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST; what was I that I could withstand
God?"

What like gift was this? The Holy Ghost. When did they receive it? When
they believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as the scripture hath said. In
other words: When you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as the scripture
hath said, you will receive the Holy Ghost and speak with other tongues.
( Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water.)

So what of the experiences of others who go under the name "Christian"?
The experiences are numerous and many are real.

I believe many have repented in some form or fashion (at least in part).
Some are waiting to be brought the truth and some have already heard and
rejected.

All who say they are trying to be Christian are not necessarily doing so.
Some just want to be "accepted" by the religious folks they know.
