Free ISP

Greetings Saints in Jesus name!
Welll.... Juno brought us free E-mail.... which is advertising
supported according to the ads that they can send to your juno e-mail
client, etc....... the days have finally arrived where there is such
a thing as a free Internet Services Provider (ISP). You're supposedly
able to get e-mail, www, usenet news, etc.
The only catch, is that you exchange your *profile* of information
(they say 15 questions) for the right for the free ISP to open a
window on your PC that'll contain advertising. This window will
be there while your connected and you can't close it. You can move
it around and put it at the bottom of a pile of windows in your cascading
windows, etc.... but you won't be able to close it. Evidently, they'll
rotate advertising in- and out- of it every so often that's targeted
at your demographics (much like Juno) and even targeted at the dial-up
number from which your calling to gain access as they supposedly can
pinpoint your location within a few miles of your location, etc.
I personally hate the interstitial ads that Geocities use when at their
web site, as I close them rightaway.... for free internet access, I think
I could bury the advertising window down that I don't even see it....
heh, heh, heh....
I received the following from ZDNet's Anchordesk e-mail today...
>
> FREE NET ACCESS TODAY. Yes, of course there is a catch.
> (But it may be worth it to you.)
.... which lead me to ....
http://www.netzero.com
Surf to the site, click on the "Access Numbers" at the top nav frame icon,
and then see if your area shows up on the list. The cities are listed
in area-code order of the access number... so you might very well have
to scroooooooooooooolllllllll down a long way to find yours.
If it's in there, and you know it's not a local toll call for you,
then click on the download (on the top nav frame) icon and you'll be
presented with a service agreement kinda thing. If you agree to that,
then you'll receive a page that has links to two netzero mirror sites
that'll allow you to download the MS Win95/98/NT software to get you
started. The executable downloaded is called ...
netzero.exe
... just save it in a place where you can easily get to it and install
it and within a few minutes (like with Juno) you should have a new ISP
and e-mail address.
Good luck and tell me if it works.
