Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... it's been my experience that the common
pew-sitting apostolic doens't really care (not you folks on H-F). They
just get enough of religion and the Holy Ghost to think they've somehow
escaped hell by using the church (and the requirements of becomming
Acts 2:38 certified) as a fire escape.
I don't know so much about arrogant, but I think by enlarge there's many
an apostolic that's ignorant of things outside of the church. Someone
asks them what it takes to be saved and they chime up and say...
"Well...that's easy... do what it says in Acts 2:38.
If you need more help, well here's my pastor's business
card."
I think apostolic services have been long regimented like the catholic
masses (and other protestant services) where there's a schedule to go
by and not allow much flow of the Spirit through the services.
I think there's a good reason why the Lord calls us sheep and it's because
sheep are one of the dumbest animals on the planet. And in comparison to
the Lord, we are about the dumbest specie on the planet as we dwarfed in the
omniscience of the Lord. Like dumb sheep, we get used to being nourished
from this part of the hill or that. We get used to being sheppard crook
hooked back into the fold as we wander. We're used to being shown that
there's a wolf out there.
You know, a single patch of land will only support so many sheep. Keeping
the sheep dumb only keeps them on the hill. It doesn't allow them to go
off and produce fruitfully elsewhere and establish other hills where there
are other sheep making a stronger breed of sheep.
I think what Bro Starcher is saying, is that there's a whole lot more hills
out there that we need to investigate and glean the good things that we
might grow and become larger. The only way we can investigate others is to
leave our comfortable hills and try the grass elsewhere. Sometimes we'll
find the grass to be better, sometimes we'll find it dryer, sometimes we'll
find it tastes a little funny but well able to nutritionally keep us, etc.
I'm not advocating a mass exodus of the local assemblies... I just don't
think that Joe and Jane apostolic really cares that they get off of their
comfortable hill because their needs are already taken care of.... they've
found their fire escape.
And that's what it comes down to.... whether we're saved or not,
we still NEED the Lord. Just because we've had a personal experience
it doesn't mean that we've got a lock on salvation. You know little
now, but later, the Lord will be requiring more as he gives more.
If he's not giving more, then it's because the nourishment has become
stale or the dumb sheep doesn't know to move to a different patch of
grass.
