DEBATE-ing on Higher-Fire

I for one feel that this is a way to control the subject matter. There comes
a point that there is nothing left to say. The fact that it has been said
over and over and over, will not change anyone minds.
In fact I would say that we have some of the most closed minded people in
the world right here. Then when they don't get their way, or their points
are summarily dismissed they get hot and bothered. Then the messages begins
to take on a more personal flavor of attacks.
Bob Mumford said it best, "Christianity is the only religion that he knew of
that shoot their wounded".
We could all learn from that statement. I am glad to see that so far the
attacks have not started. There was a couple of messages that needed to be
resent, and that was done. So for the most part the group has maintained
it's cool. I don't know how long that will last. I suspect that we are
getting to the point that the real ugly stuff is about the flow.
If this sounds hard I am sorry. I have with this group long enough to know
what to expect. The other option that we have is to limit the number of days
a thread that is considered HOT by the moderators, can run. Then after that
there is a 30 day cooling off period where all posts are discarded that
relate to that subject.
As for the idea of having someone else run the debate, that will be left to
the moderators. I am just going to say this, I think all 3 of us have been
REALLY REALLY fair to everyone here. I know that there have been minor
problems that have cropped up. BUT on the whole Tyler, Brian and Myself have
kept a level head on what's going on. So having a "expert" run a debate wont
work. One side will call foul, so the moderators will run them. (personal
opinion there :))
I cannot speck for the other moderators (though I think agree), I put my
personal views aside when I look at a message. I have to because I dont
agree with everything that is said. So when I look at your posts, I really
look for attacks, tone of delivery (which is subjective), and balance.
