If you will recall Jesus told the parable of the seeds..."some will
spring up and than they will be offended at the Word (baptism) and wither
away and die."
There's another scripture that says that he that endureth to the end
shall be save. My pastor says the race is not to the swift but to those
who endure.
And Jesus also said that few would find the straight gate.
Now my personal opinion: I have noticed that once a person receives the
Holy Ghost even if they don't stay...they are never the same again. And
who is to say that someday down the road they may recall that experience
and come running back to it. I often try to think of it as a stepping
stone across a river, and until the trumpet blows all hope is *not* lost.
(BTW this helps me not get discouraged when I am witnessing and don't see
immediate results).
I think that when things heat up even more, people will come running to
the Church. I attended a church in a town that was situated near a
military base and when the troops were being deployed to Dessert Storm,
we had 15 men pray through in 2 services. When there is the immediate
fear of death, people know where the true church is.
