Newfie Cross?

Thank-you for the pointers to the archives, I haven't found what I was
looking for, so I'll try posting the question:
I am attempting to build a sparc-sun-solaris2.6 native compiler on an
hppa1.1-hp-hpux10.20 system. [I call this a Newfie cross in my head.
Sorry, bad Canadian joke =)]
It's built - Great. I am having trouble figuring out how to install it.
If I do
../../egcs-1.1b/configure --host=sparc-sun-solaris2.6
--build=hppa1.1-hp-hpux10.20 --target=sparc-sun-solaris2.6 -v
with a --prefix=/home/jbailey/putmeonasparc, it builds a cross compiler
instead. I don't want to do a make install, because I don't need it in
directories on this system. How do you guys get it over to the other system?
Tks,
Jeff Bailey
