The Text

Would the church please stand for the reading of God's word. I would like to use for my text[*] tonight the book of Exodus, chapter 32, verse 1.

32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
Moses went up on the mount to receive the Ten Commandments directly from God. God took some time with Moses, no doubt to explain them in detail, to give time for Moses to worship, and to allow the significance of this law to sink in.

But the people wanted instant results. The grew impatient with Moses, and therefore impatient with God. They regressed into idolatry. When Moses finally did come down, they were deep in sin. Moses broke the tablets of the law, and only later did God give them back again in Exodus ch 34.

I would like to speak to you tonight on the subject of ``Delayed Reaction''.
