Rivers He brought me 'gain unto The door of the house; and, behold, Waters issued out from Under the threshold. Then He brought me out Of the gate northward, and led me To the gate that looketh eastward; And behold, there ran out waters. The man with the line in his hand went; He measured a thousand cubits, And he brought me through the waters; The waters were to the ankles. He measured a thousand, And brought me through the waters; The waters were to the knees. Again he brought me; t'were to the loins. He measured a thousand again; T'was a river I couldn't pass over: And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? For the waters were risen, Waters to swim in, A river that could Not be passed over. When I had returned, Behold, at the bank of the river Were very many trees On one side and the other. Then he said unto me, These waters issue out toward the east Go down into the desert, And go into the sea. When brought to the sea, The waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass That every thing that liveth, Wherever the rivers shall come, It shall live, and not die. And there shall be a very great Multitude of fish because These waters shall come thither: For they shall be healed; And every thing shall live Whither the river cometh. But the miry places thereof And the marshes thereof Shall not be healed; They shall be given to salt. He that believeth on me, As the scripture hath said, Out of his belly shall flow Rivers of living water. Ezekiel 47:1-11 & John 7:38 R. J. Brown, 1984
