Blue Devil
Fred Vargas
Hook: Daiichi 2052 #1.5, nickel finish, Alek Jackson Spey.
Tag: fine oval silver tinsel, in front of the point, half as long as from the barb to the point.
Rib: 4 turns medium oval silver tinsel.
Body: rear 1/2 blue silk floss, front 1/2 blue SLF, using Syd Glasso's split floss method.
Hackle: natural blue eared pheasant, along the rib.
Collar: kingfisher blue dyed burnt goose shoulder Spey hackle, stripped of one side, then kingfisher blue dyed guinea in front.
Wing: white goose shoulder, as long as the hook, tented, vertical style.
Head: red.
Note: Fred Vargas lists this fly as "unnamed", but I refuse to name a fly that, so I named it "Blue Devil". This fly was tied without a counter-rib; it probably should have one. I would suggest silver wire.
