Welcome Salmon and Steelhead Fishermen to Gumbo's Chat Board!

When you post a message, it will appear in the message window after a few seconds. It will also appear in the message window of every other fisherman that is watching the chat board. This allows you to converse, since your messages can be read instantly by the other users.

The messages all get written to a message log so that you can scroll the window backwards and see messages that were posted at some time in the past. Normally, the message window automatically scrolls down to the most recent message -- a mode I call sink, since it looks like the scroll bar is sinking to the bottom of a stream. If you grab the scroll bar with your mouse, you can scroll backwards, but the instant you stop dragging it, it will start sinking again. To disable this, you must click on the float at the upper right. This will turn off automatic scrolling. Click on the split shot sinker to turn auto-scroll back on for normal message reading again.

The rules here are simple: be a nice guy, do not use foul language, do not bad-mouth other people or businesses, and keep the subject matter related to fishing in some way.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you: you can log in for the first time by just entering the handle you want to use, along with the password you want to use. Please remember your password, as you will not be able to log in again with the same handle without using that same password. The first time you log in, your handle and password are stored in a database on the server. When you log in at some later time, you must supply the handle and password again.

If you get the password wrong, you will not be able to post messages with that handle. If you forget your password, email Gumbo to get your password sent to you via email. If you need to change your password, also email me for that.

The colors of your message and any small graphic image you like can be added to your account information in the database to customize the appearance of your messages. To get this done, email Gumbo.
If you give the wrong password for your handle when you log in, you will not be able to post any messages, but you will also not receive any notice that you gave a bad password. Ultimately, I will program it to ask you to try again, and I will not clear the message you worked so hard to type in, but for now, you will not be able to post, and the message you typed in will be lost. You will have to leave the chat page and re-enter it to get another chance to log in. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I just haven't had time to get that last thing done yet. I will be working on it, and I hope to have it done soon.
