A "Waldo" was a miniaturized robot, sub-cellular in size, that could
enter into a human body, or a peice of machinery, and do human-like
things.  The term originated in Heinlein's book "Waldo and Company",
or maybe it was a short story published along with "The man who sold
the moon."  It was definately a Heinlein concept.  I have the book
somewhere...
