¶ The vision¹ of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw² concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days³ of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

¶ Hear⁴, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD⁵ hath spoken, I have⁶ nourished and brought up children, and they have⁷ rebelled against me.

The ox⁸ knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel⁹ doth not know, my people doth not consider.

Ah sinful¹⁰ nation, a people laden with iniquity¹¹, a seed of evildoers, children¹² that are corrupters: they have forsaken¹³ the LORD, they have provoked¹⁴ the Holy¹⁵ One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward¹⁶.

Why should¹⁷ ye be stricken any more? ye will¹⁸ revolt more and more¹⁹: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

From the sole²⁰ of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises²¹, and putrifying sores: they have²² not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment²³.

Your country²⁴ is desolate, your cities are burned²⁵ with fire: your land, strangers²⁶ devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers²⁷.

And the daughter²⁸ of Zion is left as a cottage²⁹ in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged³⁰ city.

Except the LORD of hosts had left³¹ unto us a very³² small remnant, we should³³ have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

¶ Hear³⁴ the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom³⁵; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

To what purpose³⁶ is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

When³⁸ ye come to appear³⁹ before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?

Bring no more vain⁴⁰ oblations; incense⁴¹ is an abomination unto me; the new⁴² moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is⁴³ iniquity⁴⁴, even the solemn meeting.

Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul⁴⁵ hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary⁴⁶ to bear them.

And when⁴⁷ ye spread forth your hands, I will⁴⁸ hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers⁴⁹, I will not hear: your hands⁵⁰ are full of blood⁵¹.

¶ Wash⁵² you, make you clean; put away⁵³ the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease⁵⁴ to do evil;

Learn to do well; seek⁵⁵ judgment, relieve⁵⁶ the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Come now, and let us⁵⁷ reason together, saith the LORD: though your⁵⁸ sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

⁵⁹If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

¶ But if ye refuse⁶⁰ and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth⁶¹ of the LORD hath spoken it.

¶ How is the faithful⁶² city become⁶³ an harlot! it was full⁶⁴ of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

Thy silver⁶⁵ is become dross, thy wine⁶⁶ mixed with water:

Thy princes⁶⁷ are rebellious, and companions⁶⁸ of thieves: every⁶⁹ one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge⁷⁰ not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty⁷¹ One of Israel, Ah⁷², I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:

And I⁷³ will turn my hand upon thee, and purely⁷⁴ purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:

And I will⁷⁵ restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt⁷⁶ be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

Zion shall be redeemed⁷⁷ with judgment, and her converts⁷⁸ with righteousness.

And the destruction⁷⁹ of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that⁸⁰ forsake the LORD shall be consumed.

For they shall be ashamed⁸¹ of the oaks⁸² which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens⁸³ that ye have chosen.

¶ For ye shall be⁸⁴ as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden⁸⁵ that hath no water.

And the strong⁸⁶ shall be as tow⁸⁷, and the maker of it⁸⁸ as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.
