Isa 42:1
The office of Christ, graced with meekness and constancy.

Behold my servant1, whom I2 uphold; mine elect3, in whom my soul4 delighteth; I have5 put my spirit upon him: he shall6 bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

Isa 42:2

7He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

A bruised8 reed shall he not break, and the smoking9 flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

He shall not10 fail nor be discouraged11, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

I the LORD have called15 thee in righteousness, and will hold16 thine hand, and will keep thee, and give17 thee for a covenant of the people, for a light18 of the Gentiles;

To open19 the blind eyes, to bring20 out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

I am the LORD: that is21 my name: and my glory22 will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Behold, the former23 things are come to pass, and new things24 do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

Let the wilderness28 and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar29 doth inhabit: let the inhabitants30 of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.

31Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.

God will manifest himself, and check idolatry.
Isa 42:13

The LORD shall go forth as a mighty32 man, he shall stir up jealousy33 like a man of war: he shall cry34, yea, roar; he shall prevail35 against his enemies.

Isa 42:14

I have long time36 holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour37 at once.

Isa 42:15

38I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

And I will bring39 the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead40 them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked41 things straight42. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

Isa 42:17

They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly43 ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to44 the molten images, Ye are our gods.

Hear, ye deaf45; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

Isa 42:19

Who is blind46, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant?

Isa 42:20

Seeing47 many things, but thou observest not; opening48 the ears, but he heareth not.

Isa 42:21

The LORD is well49 pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will50 magnify the law, and make it51 honourable.

But this is a people52 robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared53 in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil54, and none saith, Restore.

Isa 42:23

Who among you will give55 ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come56?

Isa 42:24

57Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
