Isa 64:1
The church prays for the illustration of God's power.
Isa 64:1

Oh that1 thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come2 down, that the3 mountains might flow down at thy presence,

Isa 64:2

As when the melting fire4 burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations5 may tremble at thy presence!

Isa 64:3

When thou didst6 terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains7 flowed down at thy presence.

Isa 64:4
Celebrating God's mercy, it makes confession of their natural corruptions.

PROVIDENCE DIVINE

For since the beginning of the world men have not8 heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen9, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth10 for him.

Isa 64:5

Thou meetest11 him that rejoiceth12 and worketh righteousness, those that13 remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth14; for we have sinned: in those15 is continuance, and we shall be saved.

But we are all16 as an unclean thing, and all our17 righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all18 do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities19, like the wind, have taken us away.

And there is20 none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take21 hold of thee: for thou hast hid22 thy face from us, and hast consumed23 us, because24 of our iniquities.

Isa 64:8

CLAY
FATHERHOOD OF GOD

But now, O LORD, thou art25 our father; we are the clay26, and thou our potter; and we all are27 the work of thy hand.

Isa 64:9
It complains of their afflictions.
Isa 64:9

Be not wroth28 very sore, O LORD, neither remember29 iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are30 all thy people.

Isa 64:10
Jerusalem
Zion

31Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

Isa 64:11
TEMPLES

Our holy32 and our beautiful house, where33 our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our34 pleasant things are laid waste.

Isa 64:12

35Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
