  Vs: 23 En: 692:220  He: 350:133

J'g 2:1
An angel rebukes the people at Bochim.
J'g 2:1
ANGEL OF THE LORD
ANGELS
CANAAN, LAND OF
COVENANTS AND VOWS
Egypt
Gilgal 1
Bochim

And an angel1 of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim2, and said, I made3 you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought4 you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never5 break my covenant with you.

J'g 2:2
ASSOCIATION-SEPARATION

And ye shall6 make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have7 not obeyed my voice: why have8 ye done this?

J'g 2:3

Wherefore I also said9, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods10 shall be a snare unto you.

J'g 2:4

And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people11 lifted up their voice, and wept.

J'g 2:5
SACRIFICES
Bochim

And they called the name of that place Bochim12: and they sacrificed13 there unto the LORD.

J'g 2:6
The wickedness of the new generation after Joshua.
J'g 2:6
INHERITANCE

And when Joshua14 had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

J'g 2:7

And the people15 served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived16 Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

J'g 2:8
JOSHUA, JEHOSHUA, OR OSHEA

And Joshua17 the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

J'g 2:9
GAASH
MOUNTAINS AND HILLS
Gaash
Timnath-heres

And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres18, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

J'g 2:10
KNOWLEDGE-IGNORANCE

And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not21 the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

J'g 2:11
EVILDOERS
FALSE WORSHIP
IN GOD'S SIGHT

And the children of Israel did evil22 in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim23:

J'g 2:12
Egypt

And they forsook24 the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods25, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed26 themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

J'g 2:13
FALSE WORSHIP

And they forsook the LORD, and served27 Baal and Ashtaroth.

J'g 2:14
God's anger and pity towards them.
J'g 2:14
WEAKNESS-POWER
WRATH-ANGER

And the anger28 of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered29 them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them30 into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not31 any longer stand before their enemies.

J'g 2:15
COMFORT-MISERY

Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against32 them for evil, as the LORD had said33, and as the LORD had sworn34 unto them: and they were greatly35 distressed.

J'g 2:16
LEADERS, RELIGIOUS

Nevertheless the LORD36 raised up judges37, which delivered38 them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

J'g 2:17
FAITHFULNESS-UNFAITHFULNESS
ISRAEL-THE JEWS

And yet they would39 not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring40 after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly41 out of the way which their42 fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

J'g 2:18

And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD43 was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented44 the LORD because of their groanings45 by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

J'g 2:19

And it came to pass, when the46 judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted47 themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from48 their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

J'g 2:20
The Canaanites left to prove Israel.
J'g 2:20

And the anger49 of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed50 my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

J'g 2:21

51I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

J'g 2:22

That through52 them I may prove53 Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

J'g 2:23

Therefore the LORD left54 those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
