¶ He, that being often reproved¹ hardeneth² his neck, shall³ suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

¶ When the righteous⁴ are in authority⁵, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

¶ Whoso loveth⁶ wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he⁷ that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

¶ The king⁸ by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts⁹ overthroweth it.

¶ A man that¹⁰ flattereth his neighbour spreadeth¹¹ a net for his feet.

¶ In the transgression¹² of an evil man there is a snare: but¹³ the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

¶ The righteous considereth¹⁴ the cause of the poor: but¹⁵ the wicked regardeth not to know it.

¶ Scornful¹⁶ men bring a city into a snare¹⁷: but wise¹⁸ men turn away wrath.

¶¹⁹If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

¶ The bloodthirsty²⁰ hate the upright: but²¹ the just seek his soul.

¶²²A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

¶²³If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.

¶ The poor and the deceitful man²⁴ meet²⁵ together: the LORD²⁶ lighteneth both their eyes.

¶ The king²⁷ that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne²⁸ shall be established for ever.

¶ The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child³⁰ left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

¶ When the wicked³¹ are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but³² the righteous shall see their fall.

¶³³Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

¶ Where there³⁴ is no vision, the people perish³⁵: but³⁶ he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

¶ A servant³⁷ will not be corrected by words: for though³⁸ he understand he will not answer.

¶ Seest³⁹ thou a man that is hasty in his words⁴⁰? there is more⁴¹ hope of a fool than of him.

¶ He that delicately bringeth up his servant⁴² from a child shall have him become⁴³ his son at the length⁴⁴.

¶ An angry⁴⁵ man stirreth up strife, and a furious⁴⁶ man aboundeth in transgression.

¶ A man's⁴⁷ pride shall bring him low: but honour⁴⁸ shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¶ Whoso is partner⁴⁹ with a thief hateth⁵⁰ his own soul: he⁵¹ heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.

¶ The fear⁵² of man bringeth a snare: but whoso⁵³ putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe⁵⁴.

¶ Many seek⁵⁵ the ruler's favour⁵⁶; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

¶⁵⁷An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
