Ps 106:1
The psalmist exhorts to praise God.
Ps 106:1
MERCIFULNESS-UNMERCIFULNESS

Praise ye the LORD2. O give3 thanks unto the LORD; for he4 is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Ps 106:2

Who can utter5 the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise6?

Ps 106:3

Blessed7 are they that keep8 judgment, and he that doeth9 righteousness at all times10.

He prays for pardon of sin, as God pardoned the fathers.

SALVATION-CONDEMNATION

Remember11 me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit12 me with thy salvation;

Ps 106:5

That I may see13 the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice14 in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory15 with thine inheritance.

Ps 106:6

16We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

DISCERNMENT-DULLNESS

Our17 fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they18 remembered not the multitude19 of thy mercies; but20 provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

Ps 106:8

Nevertheless he saved21 them for his name's sake, that he22 might make his mighty power to be known.

He rebuked23 the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he24 led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

And he25 saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed26 them from the hand of the enemy.

27And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.

28Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.

STEADFASTNESS-INSTABILITY

They soon forgat29 his works; they waited30 not for his counsel:

But31 lusted exceedingly32 in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

And he gave33 them their request; but sent34 leanness into their soul.

They envied35 Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint36 of the LORD.

37The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.

38And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

39They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.

Thus40 they changed their glory41 into42 the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.

Wondrous46 works in the land of Ham, and terrible47 things by the Red sea.

INTERCESSION

Therefore he said48 that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen49 stood50 before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

Ps 106:24

Yea, they despised51 the pleasant land52, they believed53 not his word:

Ps 106:25

But murmured54 in their tents, and hearkened55 not unto the voice of the LORD.

Ps 106:26

Therefore56 he lifted57 up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

Ps 106:27

To overthrow58 their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

They joined59 themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead60.

Thus they provoked him to anger with their61 inventions: and the plague62 brake in upon them.

63Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

64And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

They angered65 him also at the waters of strife, so that66 it went ill with Moses for their sakes:

Because67 they provoked his spirit, so that he spake68 unadvisedly with his lips.

Ps 106:34

They did not69 destroy the nations, concerning70 whom the LORD commanded them:

Ps 106:35

But71 were mingled among the heathen, and learned72 their works.

TEMPTATION

And73 they served their idols: which74 were a snare unto them.

Yea, they sacrificed75 their sons and their daughters unto devils76,

Ps 106:38
CANAAN, LAND OF
SACRIFICES
Canaan

And shed77 innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land78 was polluted with blood.

ISRAEL-THE JEWS

Thus were they defiled79 with their own works, and went80 a whoring with their own81 inventions.

Ps 106:40

Therefore was the wrath82 of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch83 that he abhorred his own84 inheritance.

Ps 106:41

And he gave85 them into the hand of the heathen; and they86 that hated them ruled over them.

Ps 106:42

Their enemies87 also oppressed88 them, and they were brought into subjection89 under their hand.

EXALTATION-ABASEMENT

Many90 times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their91 counsel, and were brought low92 for their iniquity.

Ps 106:44

93Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

Ps 106:45
PENITENCE-IMPENITENCE

And he94 remembered for them his covenant, and repented95 according to the96 multitude of his mercies.

Ps 106:46

97He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

Ps 106:47
He concludes with prayer and praise.
Ps 106:47

Save us,98 O LORD our God, and gather99 us from among the heathen, to give100 thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.

Ps 106:48

Blessed101 be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD102.
