¶ A Psalm of David, to bring² to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke³ me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot⁴ displeasure.

For thine⁵ arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand⁶ presseth me sore.

There is no soundness⁷ in my flesh because of thine anger; neither⁸ is there any rest⁹ in my bones because of my sin.

For mine¹⁰ iniquities are gone over mine head: as an¹¹ heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

My wounds¹² stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

I am troubled¹³; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning¹⁴ all the day long.

For my loins¹⁵ are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no¹⁶ soundness in my flesh.

I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared¹⁷ by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

Lord¹⁸, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning¹⁹ is not hid from thee.

¶ My heart²⁰ panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light²¹ of mine eyes, it also is gone from²² me.

My lovers²³ and my friends stand²⁴ aloof from my sore²⁵; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

¶ They also that seek after my life lay snares²⁶ for me: and they that seek my hurt speak²⁷ mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

²⁸But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

Thus I was as a man that heareth²⁹ not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

For in thee,³⁰ O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear³¹, O Lord³² my God.

For I said³³, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot³⁴ slippeth, they magnify³⁵ themselves against me.

For I am ready to halt³⁶, and my sorrow³⁷ is continually before me.

For³⁸ I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry³⁹ for my sin.

But⁴⁰ mine enemies are lively⁴¹, and they are strong: and they that⁴² hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

¶ They also that render⁴³ evil for good are mine adversaries; because⁴⁴ I follow the thing that good is.

Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God⁴⁵, be not far from me.

Make⁴⁶ haste to help me,⁴⁷ O Lord my salvation.
