Purple Pursuit
R. J. Brown
Hook: Daiichi 2055 #3/0 Alek Jackson Spey fly hook, gold finish.
Tag: fluorescent lime green rayon floss, at the point, as wide as from the barb to the point.
Rib: 5 turns of medium flat gold tinsel, with fine gold oval tinsel as a counter-rib.
Body: rear 3/5 purple uni-floss, front 2/5 black angora dubbing, using Syd Glasso's split floss technique.
Hackle: natural blue eared pheasant, trailing the flat gold tinsel, over the front 2/5 only.
Collar: claret dyed teal.
Wing: purple dyed bronze mallard, vertical style.
Head: black.
Note: The purple color has a very good reputation on the rivers that I fish, so I added some flash with the gold hook, and some extra visibility with the green butt. The claret mutes the color and compliments the purple.
