Ps 140:1	David prays to be delivered from Saul and Doeg.
Ps 140:1 •DELIVERANCE	¶ *To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.* Deliver¹ me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man²;
Ps 140:2 •UNITY-STRIFE	Which imagine³ mischiefs in their heart; continually⁴ are they gathered together for war.
Ps 140:3 •ADDERS •KINDNESS-CRUELTY •POISON •SERPENTS	They have sharpened⁵ their tongues like a serpent⁶; adders⁷' poison is under their lips. Selah.
Ps 140:4	Keep me,⁸ O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve⁹ me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow¹⁰ my goings.
Ps 140:5 •SNARES LAID BY THE WICKED	The proud¹¹ have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.
Ps 140:6 •JEHOVAH CHOSEN, AS GOD	I said unto¹² the LORD, Thou art my God: hear¹³ the voice of my supplications, O LORD.
Ps 140:7	O GOD the Lord, the strength¹⁴ of my salvation, thou hast covered¹⁵ my head in the day of battle.
Ps 140:8	He prays against them.
Ps 140:8	¶ Grant not,¹⁶ O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves.¹⁷ Selah.
Ps 140:9	As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief¹⁸ of their own lips cover them.
Ps 140:10	¶ Let burning coals¹⁹ fall upon them: let them²⁰ be cast into the fire; into deep²¹ pits, that they rise not up again.
Ps 140:11 •SIN-SAVIOUR	Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.
Ps 140:12	He comforts himself by confidence in God.
Ps 140:12 •PROMISES, DIVINE	I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.
Ps 140:13	Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
