David prays for audience.
Ps 4:1

To the chief Musician on Neginoth2, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O3 God of my righteousness: thou4 hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me,5 and hear my prayer.

Ps 4:2
He reproves and exhorts his enemies.
Ps 4:2

O6 ye sons of men, how7 long will ye turn my glory8 into shame? how long will ye love9 vanity, and seek after leasing10? Selah.

PEOPLE, GOD'S
PRAYER

But know that the11 LORD hath set apart him that is godly for12 himself: the LORD13 will hear when I call unto him.

MIND, CARNAL-SPIRITUAL
QUIETNESS-TUMULT
REVERENCE-IRREVERENCE

Stand14 in awe, and sin15 not: commune16 with your own heart upon your bed, and be still17. Selah18.

Ps 4:5
SACRIFICES

Offer19 the sacrifices of righteousness, and put20 your trust in the LORD.

Ps 4:6
Man's happiness is in God's favour.
Ps 4:6

There be many21 that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift22 thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

Ps 4:7
JOY-SORROW

Thou hast put23 gladness in my heart, more than in the time24 that their corn and their wine increased.

Ps 4:8
REST-UNREST
SLEEP-WAKEFULNESS

I will25 both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for26 thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
