Ps 74:1
The prophet complains of the desolation of the sanctuary.
Ps 74:1
SHEPHERD, CHRIST AS
TITLES AND NAMES

Maschil of Asaph. O God2, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke3 against the sheep4 of thy pasture?

Ps 74:2
Mount Zion

Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased5 of old; the rod6 of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed7; this mount8 Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

Ps 74:3

Lift9 up thy feet unto the perpetual10 desolations; even all11 that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.

Ps 74:4

Thine12 enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set13 up their ensigns for signs.

Ps 74:5

14A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

15But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.

Ps 74:7
TEMPLES

They have cast fire into thy sanctuary16, they have defiled17 by casting down the dwelling18 place of thy name to the ground.

Ps 74:8
ISRAEL-THE JEWS

They said19 in their hearts, Let us destroy20 them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

Ps 74:9
LEADERS, RELIGIOUS
POVERTY-RICHES

We see21 not our signs: there is no more22 any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

Ps 74:10
He moves God to help in consideration of his power;
Ps 74:10

23O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

Ps 74:11

Why withdrawest24 thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out25 of thy bosom.

Ps 74:12

For God26 is my King of old, working27 salvation in the midst of the earth.

Ps 74:13

Thou didst divide28 the sea by thy strength: thou brakest29 the heads of the dragons30 in the waters.

Ps 74:14

Thou brakest the heads of leviathan31 in pieces, and gavest him to be meat32 to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

Ps 74:15

Thou didst cleave33 the fountain and the flood34: thou driedst up mighty rivers35.

Ps 74:16
DAY

The day36 is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared37 the light and the sun.

Ps 74:17
SUMMER

Thou hast set38 all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer39 and winter.

Ps 74:18
of his reproachful enemies, of his children, and of his covenant.
Ps 74:18

Remember40 this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish41 people have blasphemed thy name.

Ps 74:19

O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove42 unto the multitude of the wicked: forget43 not the congregation of thy poor for ever.

Ps 74:20

Have44 respect unto the covenant: for the dark45 places of the earth are full of the habitations46 of cruelty.

Ps 74:21
POOR AND NEEDY

O let not47 the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor48 and needy praise thy name.

Ps 74:22

Arise49, O God, plead thine own cause: remember50 how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

Ps 74:23
ENEMIES

Forget51 not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult52 of those that rise up against thee increaseth53 continually.
