¶ To the chief Musician upon Shoshannimeduth, A Psalm² of Asaph³. Give ear⁴, O Shepherd⁵ of Israel, thou that leadest⁶ Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest⁷ between the cherubims, shine⁸ forth.

Before⁹ Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up¹⁰ thy strength, and come and save us¹¹.

Turn us¹² again, O God, and cause¹³ thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

O LORD God of hosts, how long¹⁴ wilt thou be angry¹⁵ against the prayer of thy people?

¹⁶Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

Thou¹⁷ makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies¹⁸ laugh among themselves.

Turn¹⁹ us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall²⁰ be saved.

¶ Thou hast brought a vine²¹ out of Egypt: thou hast cast²² out the heathen, and planted it.

Thou preparedst²³ room before it, and didst cause it to take²⁴ deep root, and it²⁵ filled the land.

¶ The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars²⁶.

²⁷She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

Why hast thou then broken²⁸ down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

The boar²⁹ out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

Return³⁰, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down³¹ from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

And the vineyard³² which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch³³ that thou madest strong for thyself.

It is burned³⁴ with fire, it is cut down: they perish³⁵ at the rebuke of thy countenance.

³⁶Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

So will³⁷ not we go back from thee: quicken³⁸ us, and we will call upon thy name.

Turn us³⁹ again, O LORD God of hosts, cause⁴⁰ thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
