Ps 81:1	An exhortation to a solemn praising of God.
Ps 81:1 •MUSIC •WEAKNESS-POWER	¶ *To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm² of Asaph³.* Sing⁴ aloud unto God our strength⁵: make⁶ a joyful noise unto the God⁷ of Jacob.
Ps 81:2 •MUSIC	⁸Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
Ps 81:3 •MOON	Blow⁹ up the trumpet in the new¹⁰ moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn¹¹ feast day.
Ps 81:4	God challenges that duty by reason of his benefits.
Ps 81:4	For this was a statute¹² for Israel, and a law¹³ of the God of Jacob¹⁴.
Ps 81:5 Egypt	This he ordained in Joseph¹⁵ for a¹⁶ testimony, when he went out through¹⁷ the land of Egypt: where¹⁸ I heard a language that I understood not.
Ps 81:6	I removed¹⁹ his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered²⁰ from the pots.
Ps 81:7 Meribah 1	Thou calledst²¹ in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret²² place of thunder: I proved²³ thee at the waters of Meribah²⁴. Selah.
Ps 81:8	God, exhorting to obedience, complains of their disobedience, which proves their own hurt.
Ps 81:8	¶ Hear²⁵, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt²⁶ hearken unto me;
Ps 81:9 •FALSE WORSHIP	There shall²⁷ no strange²⁸ god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
Ps 81:10 Egypt	¶ I am²⁹ the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open³⁰ thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Ps 81:11 •INVITATIONS-WARNINGS •RECEPTION-REJECTION OF GOD AND TRUTH	But my people³¹ would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none³² of me.
Ps 81:12 •SIN-SAVIOUR	So I gave³³ them up unto their own hearts' lust³⁴: and they walked in their own counsels.
Ps 81:13	Oh that³⁵ my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!
Ps 81:14	I should³⁶ soon have subdued their enemies, and turned³⁷ my hand against their adversaries.
Ps 81:15	The haters³⁸ of the LORD should have submitted themselves³⁹ unto him: but their time⁴⁰ should have endured for ever.
Ps 81:16 •BLESSINGS-AFFLICTIONS	He should have fed⁴¹ them also with the finest of the wheat⁴²: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.
